Start of issue 4!

So much to cover today, and its important, so make sure you read to the bottom of the post.

Issue 4 starts today, and as I said, this is a pretty much standalone issue, so it’s a great jumping on point for people. Also, this is your last warning, you should make sure you’re familiar with Empire Strikes Back.

I promised fanart, and here it is! Today’s offering comes to you via Trevor Halligan of Shyeah!, a comic about 4 dudes living in Portland.

If you have been following me on twitter or facebook, you may have heard that if everything went to plan, I was going to have a shiny new site today. Everything did not go to plan. Right now, I’m looking at a launch on Monday, so come back then to check out the new site! One thing I’m not super confident about the switchover is RSS, you may have to come back to the site and resubscribe (or you may not) so if you suddenly stop getting comics in your feed, come to the site and get the new feed!

And this may be burying the lead a bit, but Jimmy and the Hammer is returning to twice weekly. Be sure to start checking Monday and Friday, starting this Monday, the 28th.

End of Issue 3

And just like that, issue 3 has ended. This also marks the end of the original story arc I conceived for Jimmy and the Hammer. Everything else that is to come will be stuff I have written since starting.

I’m very excited for issue 4. I get to tell a story I’ve been wanting to tell for about a year. I will warn you up front, it does make a few references to Star Wars, namely Empire Strikes Back, so if you haven’t seen that flick in a while, now’s a great time to re-watch it.

Also, Issue 4 is going to be almost completely self contained, so now is a great time for new readers to jump in. Tell your friends!

One last thing, you should definitely check out this awesome Hammer fanart by my friend and webcomic colleague Diana Stoneman of Sweet and Sour Grapes. If you liked that, be sure to check back next Friday for another piece of fanart, and the start of Issue 4!

Awesome Hammer Drawing on DeviantArt

My friend and colleague, Ran Brown, has drawn a bust of the Hammer and posted it on her deviantArt page.

Check it out here.

Some of you may have noticed that since I started doing this once a week, my art has drastically improved. This is parly due to me having twice as long to work on a page, but it is also due to a group of webcomic creators kicking my ass to improve. Ran is a part of that group, and a constant motivator to improve.

If you would like to check out her work (and you should!), her new webcomic is The End and you can also check out her DeviantArt page.

Double Strip today!

by jathevan on May 7, 2010 at 12:34 am

Wow! A double page! Why? I’ll tell you!

As most of you know, when Jimmy and the Hammer started, it was on a two times a week schedule. Fairly recently, I cut back to once a week because I hit an incredibly busy patch.

Later, life opened up a bit again. But I decided to instead of going back to two updates a week, I would stay at one update a week, and do an additional art project not directly related to my webcomic. This would give me an opportunity to grow as an artist in a much broader fashion.

The response to this was widely positive. Where not positive, it was at least supportive. And where not supportive, it was at least silent in its dissapproval.

There was, however, one exception: my mom. She has, on multiple occasions, pointed out to me how much better two updates a week is than just one.

So, today, the update before Mother’s Day, I give you two pages.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Jimmy and the Hammer turns 50!

I hope you enjoy this special double-sized Jimmy and the Hammer today! It is in celebration of not only the 6 month aniversary of the comic, but also the 50th update!

On top of that, the big reveal of who was really behind it all! Was it who you expected? Lots of cool stuff still to come, though, so keep coming back!

It’s been a great 50 strips! I hope you all enjoy the next 50.
